Fred is co-founder and Vice President of KEYW Corporation, a public company (NASDAQ: KEYW) focused on serving the intelligence community. KEYW went from inception in July 2008 to a successful IPO in October 2010.
Fred is currently the VP of KEYW’s Maryland Operations. From December 2009 through July 2010, Fred managed KEYW’s Recon Systems Division. From the inception of the company through December 2009, Fred was responsible for all of the Merger & Acquisition related activities of KEYW. During that 17 month period, Fred successfully completed 5 acquisitions. As a co-founder, Fred also served as CFO of KEYW from inception of the company until May 2009, and led the initial financing round for KEYW in August 2008, as well as KEYW’s “B” round of financing in May 2009.
Fred is also the CEO of Funk Advisory Group, a professional services firm providing strategic advisory services to both public and private companies.
Previously, Fred was the Vice President of Corporate Development with Essex Corporation. Fred joined Essex in January 2004, and was responsible for all Merger & Acquisition activities for Essex prior to their acquisition by Northrop Grumman in January 2007. Fred completed 4 acquisitions for Essex, driving the growth of Essex Corporation from $16M in revenue in 2003 to over $265M in revenue in 2006, resulting in the sale of Essex to Northrop Grumman for approximately $590M in January 2007.
Fred has over 20 years experience in a variety of industries. Prior to Essex, Mr. Funk held executive positions at two publicly traded technology-based companies, Aether Systems and Caliber Learning Network. Fred also worked as a business consultant for Arthur Andersen.
Fred has a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Virginia Tech, and a Master of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland. He is a frequent public speaker.
